Founded in 1984, Nanning College for Vocational Technology (NCVT), formerly known as Nanning Vocational University, is a full-time comprehensive higher vocational college organized by Nanning Municipal People’s Government and jointly established by Nanning City and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. In November 2009, NCVT passed the evaluation of the Ministry of Education，PRC and the Ministry of Finance, PRC and became one of the first batch of 28 “National Demonstrative Higher Vocational Colleges”, the first higher vocational college which has won this honor in Guangxi. In June 2019, NCVT was approved as “National High-quality Higher Vocational College” by the Ministry of Education, PRC. In December 2019, it was successfully selected as one of the construction units for High-level Higher Vocational Colleges with Chinese Characteristics, the only higher vocational college of Guangxi in the list.

Since 2016, NCVT has made fruitful achievements and been granted many honors such as “Top 50 Influential Vocational Colleges in Asia-Pacific Region”’, “Top 50 National Higher Vocational Colleges in Teaching Resources”, “National High-quality Higher Vocational College”, “National Model Branch of Party Building”, “Demonstrative College for Class A Project of Holistic Education in Guangxi”, “Chinese Training Base for Innovative Talents in High-tech Zone”.             

NCVT covers an area of more than 120 hectares with the floorage of over 500,000 square meters. It has established 12 secondary colleges with more than 50 majors, providing schooling for 19,000 full-time junior- college students and continuing education for more than 3,000 students.

NCVT has built a high-level teaching team with double-qualifications, which is led by a national excellent teaching team and composed by full-time and part-time faculty members. As of the end of 2020, there are nearly 920 faculty members, of which 770 are full-time teachers. NCVT recruits excellent talents though flexible tunnels, and vigorously supports faculty and staff to study for doctorate degree. There are 266 high-caliber talents at the city level or above, including 8 national high-caliber talents entitled as National Famous Teachers or National Excellent Teachers, 28 regional high-caliber talents entitled as Guangxi Famous Teachers, Guangxi High-Caliber Talents and Guangxi Technical Experts, and 230 municipal high-caliber talents such as Nanning Distinguished Experts and Nanning Chief Technicians. It has 1 National-level Teaching Team, 9 Provincial Innovative Teaching Teams, 1  Skill Master Workshop in Guangxi, 3 Skill Master Workshops in Nanning, and 1 Small Talents Highland in Nanning .

NCVT implements the Strategy of Boosting Nanning City (provincial capital of Guangxi) and builds a professional system closely following the industrial layout and structural adjustment of pillar industries, emerging industrial groups and industrial chains in Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, such as electronic information, advanced equipment manufacturing, architecture, real estate and modern services. It is devoted to creating a cultivation highland for innovative technical talents by giving a full play to the leading role of the two national high-level professional groups: Architectural Interior Design and Software Technology so as to promote the development of 8 professional groups including Intelligent Manufacturing, Smart Finance, Modern Logistics, Media, Health and Tourism, International Service, Art Design and New Energy Vehicles. NCVT has a National Fine Major: Interior Design Technology, and several National Key and Demonstrative Majors: Electrics-mechanics Integration, Hotel Management, Logistics Management, Interior Design Technology, Applied Thai Language and Software Technology. It is in the first batch of pilot colleges for national 1+X certificate system, and has 4 national and 7 regional modern apprenticeship pilot majors.

NCVT has 3 National Teaching Achievement Awards, 9 National Excellent Courses and 7 National Excellent Online Courses, which account for nearly one third of the total excellent online courses built by Guangxi higher vocational colleges.

NCVT has been actively exploring joint undergraduate vocational education together with colleges and universities. NCVT and Guilin Tourism University have set up application-oriented undergraduate majors through integration of industry and education such as Tourism Management. NCVT cultivates high-level application-targeted undergraduate talents with Guilin University of Electronic Technology. Joining hands with Nanning Normal University, NCVT provides targeted-undergraduate education for teachers from county-level secondary vocational schools.

NCVT has integrated with leading enterprises in Nanning and renowned enterprises around the world such as Huawei, Foxconn, Alibaba, Disney, Marriott, Hilton and so on to set up 5 industrial-featured colleges such as Huawei ICT Industrial College, Nanning Foxconn College, Artificial Intelligence College, and Sino-German Dual-Subject Industrial College etc. and 3 vocational education groups such as Guangxi Artificial Intelligence Vocational Education Group, Guangxi National Skills Vocational Education Group, and Nanning Vocational Education Group. It has been approved as a pilot college for modern apprenticeship system by the Ministry of Education， PRC.

Up to now, NCVT has built 47 on-campus training bases and 189 off-campus training rooms with a total equipment value of 255 million yuan. It has established 6 regional “Thousand and Ten-Thousand Projects” and a number of world advanced training centers such as Foxconn Nanning Science and Technology Park’s Production Line for Training, Training Room for GE Intelligent Platform Automation System Application and the first Innovative Application Center of ABB Industrial Robot in Southwest China.

In December 2018, Guangxi Public Training Base for Vocational Skills was settled in NCVT. It is the largest public training base in Southwest China with a total investment of 1 billion yuan. Another five advanced training centers, such as Modern Control, Modern Electronic Information, and Modern Manufacturing have been added to the Training Base, which expands the total coverage of NCVT’s schooling.

Adhering to the principle of opening up, NCVT has signed cooperation agreements with more than 10 universities from ASEAN countries, formed counterpart support relations with more than 20 higher vocational colleges inside and outside Guangxi, and established cooperative relations with more than 230 industry backbone and leading enterprises.

In recent years, the employment rate of graduates has been over 90%. Since the establishment of NCVT, it has delivered more than 100,000 highly-skilled and application-oriented talents for the society, and provided powerful talent support for regional economic construction and social development.

Over the years, NCVT has been strongly supported by the Ministry of Education, PRC, all sectors of society, and leaders and governments at all levels in Guangxi and Nanning, which has laid a solid foundation for its rapid, healthy and sustainable development. In November 2016, Sun Chunlan, incumbent Vice Premier of the State Council, then Minister of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, visited NCVT. She affirmed the achievements of NCVT and praised it for its sound college-running ideology, excellent teaching modes, advanced hardware facilities, high employment rates and high-quality college-running.
